About the Franklin Historical Society:

The Franklin Historical Society look after the Pukekohe Pioneer Memorial cottage in Roulston Park, Stadium Drive, Pukekohe on behalf of the Franklin District Council.

The cottage is believed to be the original cottage owned by John Martyn in 1859 and was garrisoned by British troops during the Waikato War of 1863. It was gifted to the people of Pukekohe by the Holmes family and it was officially opened during the Pukekohe Centennial celebrations in 1965.

It is furnished throughout in the colonial style and it contains many pieces of china, silverware and items of the pioneering period, donated or lent by residents of the district.

The Franklin Historical Society runs the Pukekohe Cottage located in Roulston Park, Pukekohe on behalf of the Franklin District Council. The Franklin Historical Society is mainly concerned with the promotion and preservation of history within the Franklin area, especially Pukekohe.

Membership of the Society is open to anyone and the subscriptions are $10.00 family and $7.00 single per annum.

Admission is by donation
